Noxious weeds are a threat to the lands of Idaho. In order to keep our lands safe we need all the help we can get in this fight against invasive weeds. You may be thinking how can a weed be dangerous? Each of the weeds in Idaho’s list of 57 Noxious Weeds (which will soon be 64) can cause harm to the environment, animals, as well as yourself. Here are a few examples to help show you the damages noxious weeds can do. Russian Knapweed is toxic to horses and can cause chewing disease. Leafy Spurge produces a milky juice that can cause blisters and if rubbed in the eyes can cause permanent blindness. Eurasian Watermilfoil can reproduce by just a fragment of the plant and this plant creates dense mats in waterways becoming a danger to fish, native aquatic plants, and swimmers. These are only a few examples of the danger that the lands of Idaho are facing due to Noxious Weeds.
